Anita Anand: Championing for Change in Canada

With a career spanning over two decades, Anita Anand has made significant contributions to the field of law, academia, and politics. Born and raised in Brampton, Ontario, Anand’s passion for social justice and equality was sparked at a young age. She went on to graduate from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts before pursuing her law degree at the University of Oxford. Anand then completed her Master of Laws at Yale Law School, where she honed her expertise in corporate governance and securities law.

In 2019, Anand made history by becoming the first South Asian woman to be elected to the House of Commons, representing the riding of Oakville, Ontario. As Minister of Public Services and Procurement, she has already implemented initiatives to promote diversity in government contracts, increase transparency and accountability, and address climate change. Anand is also a fierce advocate for women’s rights and has been a champion for policies to support victims of sexual harassment and violence.
